Dear 5th Grade Band Parents:
IThe beginners’ band night will be in the high school band room at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21st. This is a very important meeting because I will explain the various options for getting an instrument and I will also explain my grading policy for band. Those who already have instruments are encouraged to attend so they can see the method book we use, and make sure their instrument is in good playing condition. To get them started, we will have three sessions of band boot camp from Tuesday 8/20/13 through Thursday 8/22/13.
Here is the schedule for each day:
10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Alto saxophones/Clarinets/ Flutes
11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Trumpets / Trombones / French Horn
12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. Percussion/Bass Guitar/Classical Guitar
During band boot camp, older band students and I will work with the beginners to show them how to assemble and play their instruments. Also, they will have opportunities to test out of songs on the stages and earn points for the fall quarter of the school year, plus the rewards that go with passing each stage. It’s a great way for them to get a jump start on their instruments before the school year begins. If you would like your student to be in band boot camp, please fill out and return the boot camp registration form to me along with a check for $10.00 payable to Ada-Borup Public School by Thursday, May 23rd. Please feel free to call me at the school (784-2239 ext. 393), e-mail me at richardt@ada.k12.mn.us, or go to www.tuttlemusic.com if you have any questions. This is going to be a great band!!!
Sincerely,
Richard Tuttle

Dear Band Parents:
We are planning two exciting tours for our band students. The first tour is our trip to Chicago in the summer of 2014 (after baseball & before football) which is for next years’ high school band. We ride a train to Chicago and spend 4 days and 3 nights taking in as much of the city as possible. More details to follow as I receive bids from two different travel agencies.
The second tour is our trip to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida in the summer of 2018 (after baseball & before football) which is for next years’ 5th through 8th grade band students. This trip will be patterned after the 2008 tour when we chartered busses and were gone for 10 days. For a trip of this scale to work, I’ll need some parent volunteers to line up some extra fund-raising. If there’s not enough interest, we’ll go to Chicago instead.
Just to review:
Summer 2014 trip to Chicago – next year’s high school band
Summer 2018 trip to Disneyworld – next year’s 5th through 8th grade band members
In order for a student to take a summer tour, they must have completed stage 30 on their instrument. Regarding money, our main fund raiser is online magazine sales. Since it’s on the Internet, we can earn money all year. Just go to www.tuttlemusic.com to find the information you need. If any parents would like to have additional fund raisers, just make contact with Mr. Tuttle and we’ll set something up. Please feel free to call me at the school (784-2239 ext. 393), e-mail me at richardt@ada.k12.mn.us, or go to www.tuttlemusic.com if you have any questions.
Sincerely,

I am trying something a little different this summer. First of all, any student who is on stages 1 – 12 can sign up for Band Boot Camp. The cost is $10.00. We also need students who are on stage 13 and above to serve as trainers for Band Boot Camp. Trainers go to Band Boot Camp for free and receive the same points/rewards as the trainee receives. The Band Boot Camp will run for three days from Tuesday, August 20 through Thursday, August 22.
Here is the schedule for each day:
10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Alto saxophones/Clarinets/ Flutes
11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Trumpets / Trombones / French Horn
12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. Percussion/Bass Guitar/Classical Guitar
Students who wish to receive individual instruction from Mr. Tuttle during the summer can register for the One on One Program. For $25.00, a student can have three 20-minute sessions with Mr. Tuttle. These sessions will be scheduled on an individual basis.
The band will play for the Memorial Day service on Monday, May 27, 9:30 a.m. at Bosworth Park. Although I realize many are on vacation, it is important we have as many 6 - 12 grade band members there as possible to honor the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our freedom. Band members will earn 12 points for the fall quarter of the 13-14 year.
If you would like your student to be part of Band Boot Camp ($10.00), Boot Camp Trainer (free of charge), or the One on One Program ($25.00), please fill out and return the corresponding form to Mr. Tuttle with a check payable to the Ada-Borup Public School by Thursday, May 23. Please feel free to call me at the school (784-2239 ext. 393), e-mail me at mailto:richardt@ada.k12.mn.us or go to www.tuttlemusic.com if you have any questions. Have a great summer!!!
